The aim of the post is to provide opportunity for people in the BD3 area to improve their English language skills and therefore build up their confidence and ability to use local services and build new friendships. This will be done through provision of a two free weekly classes – 1) Spoken English conversation club and 2) Basic English skills class for women.
Role Description
Duties include:
- To prepare each session including materials.
- To facilitate weekly Spoken English Club and Basic English class for women.
- To manage and support a team of volunteers to help run and facilitate the sessions.
- To set up the room for each session including any equipment and to clear up afterwards.
- To meet and arrange visiting speakers as appropriate.
- To organise an annual English enrichment trip.
- To publicise the class as required.
- To organise regular reviews and to implement and evaluate any suggested improvements.
- To arrange relevant volunteer training where appropriate.
The successful candidate will join a small, friendly and supportive staff team, who are all committed to working alongside those who are vulnerable and marginalised in our community.

About The Anchor Project

The Anchor Project, established in 2004, is based in St Clement’s Church on Barkerend Road (BD3 9DF). We are a small charity that supports the journeys of marginalised communities, helping and equipping people to improve their wellbeing, skills, knowledge and resilience. The Anchor Project has run conversational English sessions since 2009. Currently we also provide a drop-in for refugees and people seeking asylum, a lunch club for over 55s, and various sessions for improved wellbeing.
