The main job of a project manager will be:
- To manage the work of the project as a whole, as well as to support and develop the vision of The Light of The World Community Centre. To ensure good relationships, between the Community Centre and the Church.
- To help local people to develop their own ideas and to work with them at every level using project facilities, forming activity groups and encouraging active participation.
- To seek resources to develop and sustain activities within the project and at the Community Centre.
- To coordinate training provision for staff, volunteers and users of the Community Centre.
- To have responsibility for reporting and dealing with the maintenance requirements of the building and equipment.
- To facilitate the management committee and attend sub-group and committee meetings.
Role Description
Responsibilities:
- Management Committee: To be responsible to and supported by the Management Committee. To work closely with and support the Management Committee in the overall management of the project and to further the aims of the project.
- To be responsible for the day to day management of the project which includes the line management staff.
- Co-working: to work closely with the Centre Coordinator and other officers- in-charge of the services provided in the centre in a flexible way to the maximum benefits of users, volunteers and paid staff.
- To support the management Committee in their responsibility for assessment and support of workers, both paid and unpaid.
- In consultation with the management committee, to be responsible for receiving and dealing with complaints and grievances.
- Teamwork: To supervise and support workers, both paid and unpaid as part of a democratic team.
- Individual Responsibility: To manage own workload.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience of development work in a community setting.
- Experience of managing a project.
- Experience of supervising staff
- Experience of liaising with other agencies
- Substantial experience of negotiating funding, writing funding applications and all other aspects of fundraising.
Qualifications:
- Good level numeracy/ literacy skills. To be able to write reports and complete funding applications.
- Degree in Management.
- 3 years substantial management experience.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- A working knowledge of both voluntary sector and the local authority.
- Extensive interpersonal skills.
- Good communication skills
- Skills in group work, leadership through supervisory skills.
- Able to support staff through periods of change.
- Good organisational ability.
- Ability to establish, communicate and maintain anti-racist , and anti-sexist practice.
- Ability to establish and maintain systems of communications and management.
- Knowledge of different cultures and modes of life.
Attitude and Disposition:
- Tolerant, flexible, sensitive, non-judgmental, caring, accepting.
- Ability to assess situations and make decisions.
- Ability to build professional working relationships with a large variety of different people.
- A willingness to support and sympathise with the Christian faith and values.
Training:
- Able to demonstrate willingness to undertake continuous self-development.
Special Circumstances:
- Ability to work occasional weekends and late shifts if required.
Physical:
- Physically and mentally able to withstand the pressure and stress of the job.
