Role background

Our Communications and Engagement team sits at the heart of everything we do at BDC Mind. As part of a small, collaborative team, you’ll work across all departments and services to amplify our impact, challenge stigma, and connect with more people across Bradford District and Craven.

Your creativity and storytelling skills will help shape our voice, strengthen our reputation, and promote a positive, hopeful approach to mental health and wellbeing. Role outcomes

  • Supporting the design and effective delivery of the organisation’s annual communications and engagement plan.
  • Leading on individual service communications providing insight and operational best practice support.
  • Leading on internal communications and producing regular updates and briefings across multiple online and offline channels.
  • Creating and delivering the social media plan across a range of channels including management of an advertising budget for paid social content.
  • Leading on supporting the income generation team to deliver effective fundraising events and training products.
  • Supporting media opportunities with regional news including radio, TV and online publications.
  • Effectively managing delegated areas of the operational communications budget to achieve objectives set out in the annual plan.
  • Collaborating with services to create lived experiences stories from people supported by our services.
  • Designing and developing effective print and online communications materials including development of accessible materials targeting priority groups.
  • Effectively managing content on the BDC Mind and Healthy Minds’ websites via content management systems.
  • Acting as an ambassador and represent Bradford District and Craven Mind at external functions, events, giving talks and presentations as required.
  • Consistently working in alignment with our aims, objectives, policies, core values and standards set out in our employee handbook.
  • Fully participating in all relevant training to develop and maintain your performance in the role.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grades A-C – including English and Maths

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g English, communications, journalism, marketing)

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Extensive experience in a communications or marketing role
  • Developing digital content for website, social media and newsletters (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Mailchimp)
  • Website content management, WordPress or similar
  • Copywriting for diverse audiences and platforms
  • Social media content creation, management and reporting

Desirable:

  • Experience in a communications role within healthcare or the voluntary sector
  • Experience building relationships with a range of stakeholders, including community groups, local media, and system partners
  • Basic video editing and photography skills
  • Leading on communications and engagement campaigns
  • Managing a budget (e.g paid social media)
  • Commissioning and briefing photographers, graphic designers and freelancers

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels
  • Confidence and ability to represent the organisation at meetings and events
  • Strong collaboration skills, able to build trust and credibility across multiple teams and organisations
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet multiple deadlines

KNOWLEDGE

Desirable

  • Ability to travel independently around Bradford District and Craven
  • Understanding of mental health and its impact on individuals.
  • Knowledge of different marketing and communication tools
  • An understanding of the voluntary and community sector and mental health organisations within Bradford District and Craven
  • An understanding of the mental health challenges faced by different communities including groups with protected characteristics

Role Description

Role purpose

Working closely with the Head of Communications and Engagement, you will lead the development and delivery of the organisation’s communication strategy. Your work will enhance our reputation, strengthen relationships with key audiences, and ensure clear, consistent messaging across all channels.

This role exists to build trust, influence stakeholders, and protect the organisation’s reputation through high‑quality internal and external communications. You will help shape how we communicate and engage with clarity, confidence and compassion.
