Community Engagement Worker (Eastern European communities)

We are looking for a Community Engagement Worker to help us in making mental health support more culturally responsive for Eastern European communities.

In this role, you will work closely with Eastern European communities to understand the challenges they face in accessing mental health services; and supporting the development of mental health services that meet the needs of Eastern European communities.

Please note, this programme also supports other ethnically and culturally diverse communities.

The successful candidate will engage and support Eastern European communities to promote inclusion and create chances for people to connect. They will do this by attending community events, such as cultural and religious gatherings. The candidate will also collect feedback through surveys, focus groups, and social media. They will also attend and participate in various meetings to share ideas and insights.

Role Description

Key duties

  • Develop partnerships with grassroots organisations who are specialists in supporting Eastern European communities in offering cultural, religious, and/or spiritual support services.
  • Make direct contact with Eastern European communities to raise awareness of mental health issues; while also seeking to address associated stigma.
  • Facilitate the organisation of consultation events, forums and social events to enable people from Eastern European backgrounds to participate and make service providers aware of mental health challenges.
  • Promote greater involvement from Eastern European communities in planning and developing mental health services.
  • Support the creation of safe spaces, self-help groups, and initiatives led by individuals from these communities experiencing mental health challenges.
  • Collaborate with other provider organisations to collect effective data and share information gathering methods.
  • Raise awareness about available services and refer individuals in need of support.
  • Assist in monitoring the impact and effectiveness of services developed for Eastern European communities.
  • Detailed reporting and data collection to track progress, demonstrate impact, and inform service delivery and improvements.
  • Attend team meetings and local events to build relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Ensure that in all aspects of the role you embody the aims, objectives, and core values of Mind in Bradford.
  • Champion the Bradford District and Craven Mind ‘Code of Conduct’ to ensure that it well communicated, understood and implemented at all times both by staff, volunteers and clients.
  • Ensure that the relevant colleagues and a competent understanding of, and comply with, all Bradford District and Craven Mind policies and procedures.
  • Take responsibility, with colleagues, for ensuring that all Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Information Governance and Equality & Diversity requirements are met and all other Company policies complied with.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties or tasks deemed necessary by the senior management team.

The role will appeal to those who have:

  • Experience in community engagement, outreach, or similar roles, particularly working with diverse or underrepresented communities.
  • A strong understanding of Eastern European cultures, with the ability to speak one or more Eastern European languages.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster trust and build meaningful connections.
  • A proactive, compassionate approach to addressing mental health challenges and promoting overall wellbeing.
  • A commitment to promoting and driving improvements in mental health support for underserved communities.
